Today I’m excited to get to introduce you guys to my sweet friend, Annie Downs. I’m excited because Annie is awesome… but I’m also excited to get to tell you about her new book, “Speak Love.”Β Annie and I met up to film this short video on Sunday and my 9 year-old Gage offered to help with the interview. And because, like I said earlier, Annie is awesome she told him “I think that is a fabulous idea.” Hence, Gage’s first interview…

And the best news is today we are giving away two copies of “Speak Love.”Β You can win a copy for yourself or to give to someone else, like your student minister or to any pre-teen/teenage girl you might know.

Just leave your name in the comments and who you want to share Speak Love with!

I can’t seem to get the video to work… but it sounds like a great book! I’d love to share it with both my daughters. The oldest is a sophomore in high school and the youngest started middle school this year. Definitely a needed challenge to use our words for good!

Oops! Stephanie, I fixed it… having a public video set to private is a bad thing! πŸ™‚ Thank you for your patience.

Would love to win this, the copy for me would be passed around our youth via my teen daughter… (Half my bookcase is doing the rounds at any given time) and the other copy would go to a young girl I talk with who goes to another local church that is close to us. (It is another great church, we have just developed a rapport)

Resently, we had some turnovers in ministry staff leaving us with out a youth leader… me being the pastors wife, I am the fill in for every ministry except worship (I don’t sing…lol), had to step in and take the youth group. Well, fortunately I love love love youth! Their excitement, however, did not match mine… Hahaha… I had 10 kiddos and they were dragging, until they saw I had candy (my secret weapon)… in my head in trying to quickly come up with ways to get them involved, excited about youth group, about God, about anything! So we come up with a few competitions to win items… (Thanks to you guys and your recent blog competition… I learn quick =) lol) it worked! We have an Instagram account now… we have a picture challenge to help get the word out… what I am seeing though, is where the lack of enthusiasm comes from…the bullying, the negativity… specifically from 2 girls in the group… I have a teen daughter and after our meeting last Wed, I asked are these girls always so depressing? What I learned was shocking… of coarse I used that as an opportunity to talk to my daughter about how negativity effects everyone… how wrong the name calling and putting others down just kills the atmosphere in the room and how much damage it does to others… this week I reached out to these girls. They need love! Both of them are super smart and readers…. both would benefit from this book… Not to mention something my daughter and I could read together. I can’t wait to get a copy!

I would love to share this with my girl students, especially my daughter who is now in your student ministry (longevity has its perks and pitfalls, ha!). This is a subject I speak on a lot when I get the opportunity, something I am very passionate about sharing. Words are literally a life & death matter!
Great job on the interview, Gage πŸ˜‰
And Annie’s blog post yesterday on Miley Cyrus–outstanding. Makes me want to read the book even more.

First of all, Gage is the cutest! πŸ™‚ I saw you tweet about this book a few days ago and immediately added it to my books to buy and read list. Would love to win a copy to read myself and then share with my nieces!

  7. Nancy

First of all I will read the book. I always try to read a book in it’s entirety before giving a copy away. One copy I will keep for myself. (I am planting a church and it is important to me as we begin to reference good books, that speak to youth!)

The girls are the church of today and they are the church of tomorrow. The 2nd copy I would like to send to my niece. She is at the age, that this would be great for her to read.

  8. Kristyn

Would love to read this & pass it to youth girls & leaders as well! Gage did great in his first interview! So cute!

As a veteran youth/kids’ pastor wife, this resonates with me. As a mom of a soon-to-be teenage girl, it penetrates my soul. I would love a copy of this book to help us both remember how life giving our words need to be!

  10. Emily Wheaton

I am the mom of two teenage daughters and also the assistant to our Youth Pastor. I can’t wait to read this book and share it with ALL my girls!

  11. Amy Schull

I would share this book with my Middle School daughter (start her off right), and with the college aged young ladies our new church-plant is full of.

  12. Charity Betts

I would love to read it and then pass on to student moms that I’m in group with and then the other copy directly to our student leader wife to make the rounds.

  13. Jen Featherston

Love Annie! Would love for my daughters to have a copy of this book in their resource library. Thank you for the oppportunity!

  14. Crystal

Would love to share this book with my teenage daughter who had a rough year in school last year and over the summer with some of her friends. Thank you for the opportunity!

  15. Jillian Nieves

Another mom and I have been pressed to do a small group with a group of young teen girls and their mothers. We want to build strong communication in that relationship but also give the girls an opportunity to be part of a discipleship group. I was JUST researching books we could use last night!! God’s timing is always perfect. Thank you Annie for listening to the Holy Spirit and sharing this with our girls. Can’t wait to dive into this great topic!

I am a counselor in a college setting and would love to use with my students and give the other copy to my teenage daughter’s small group leader.

  17. Bryn Stauffer

I would love to share this with my daughter, specifically- and then also pass it on to my dear friend who runs the Jr High girls LifeGroup. Thanks for the chance!

  18. Jes Tidwell

    Obsessed with AD.
As a pastors wife and mom to 5 kiddos (only one girl) I think Speak Love applies to not only girls but boys as well. It’s so hard so watch my men struggle with what others say to them and about them.
One copy would stay in my hands long enough to read it and then pass it on to my fellow ministry wives. The other copy I would use as a giveaway on my blog.

  19. Cindy Parisi

I have two sweet granddaughters (13 and 14) and I’d like them to stay that way. I believe they would benefit from Annie’s book as would I and other adult women. Love you Annie Downs!!

  20. ~Karrilee~

I love this… I want to get this into the hands of my own (college – gasp?) girlie and all of her friends – who are just starting college – some here at home, and some far away!
