A Sword For The Battle: Fear
It grips us. Beats us. Slays us. Torments us. Slaps us around.
It plays no favorites. It just wants to paralyze everything in its path. It makes us feel like we have no trust in our God. Fear and faith are very similar – they are just heading in the wrong direction. Fear says, “I know bad stuff lies ahead, and I wonder if God is with me.” Faith says, “I don’t know what lies ahead, but I know my God is with me.”
Mark Twain said, “Do the thing you fear the most and the death of fear is certain.” We must battle against fear if we are to find victory in our lives. We must face our issues, concerns and discouragements and rise above them. And when we do this, fear will diminish in our lives. It will lose its hold on us. It will die, not us.
Here are some verses to help you battle through those fearful moments that probably come throughout the day. The more you battle, the less you’ll have to. It’s time to fight back with the Sword and start taking back ground today. (Pronouns in some verses have been changed to first person.)
I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. Psalm 23:4
The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? Psalm 27:1
But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3
I will not be afraid, for God is with you. I will not be discouraged, for He is my God. He will strengthen me and help me. He will hold me up with His victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10
I will be strong and courageous! I will not be afraid and will not panic before them. For the Lord my God will personally go ahead of me. He will neither fail me nor abandon me. Deuteronomy 31:6
For God has not given me a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
When I go through deep waters, God will be with me. When I go through rivers of difficulty, God will not let me drown. When I walk through the fire of oppression, God will not let me be burned up; the flames will not consume me. Isaiah 43:2
Thank you for this! We all need to focus more on what God’s word says. We need to put every effort into just trusting Him. When fear comes upon us, we need to look to the heavens and proclaim, “I will not be bound by thus! I will trust in you, my Father”
Thanks for not just describing the battle we all have to fight but also the weapons provided.
