Last Day… Single Digits
Posted by Brandi Wilson
Last week I received an email from a sweet friend that included something she’d written based on some emotions she was experiencing. You see, my friend, Jenny, and her husband had lost a spiritual leader in their life, which is truly painful to walk through. But what makes this story so cool is that last week was on of those weeks where so many things personally “intersected” for Jenny.
You know those weeks… The loss of Jenny’s friend intersected with her learning something new about herself and her personal calling from Christ. The intersection also hit when she realized her purpose behind a HUGE volunteer role she’s playing for Armed and Dangerous in May.
Most of you girls know I’m all about personal story and I loved reading Jenny’s and wanted to share it with you.
My Focus, Inspired by a Life Well Lived
A week ago, I began a search within myself for my life’s focus. The book, “Calm My Anxious Heart,” sparked my search. I was inspired to look at what type of woman I longed to be known as and then decide on a few steps I could take to move in that direction. I am not typically good at keeping a daily quiet time, but I went for it. Each day, I have been surprised as I opened my Bible and found scriptures that are inspiring to me. The journey was moving forward when last night we received news that a dear friend of our family had gone to be with his heavenly Father.
Billy Hornsby, president of the Association of Related Churches, was an encourager. The years my husband was the campus pastor at Seacoast Church’s Greenville Campus, were lonely at times. You know the feelings. Many times we felt down and alone. We were three hours west of Seacoast’s main offices in Mt Pleasant, SC. A couple of times a year, Billy would make time to come visit us just to take us to dinner, check on us and make us feel worthwhile. I’m sure he was making the trip mostly to spend time with his best friend and wife, Charlene, but I was convinced it was all for us. He lived a full life focused on loving his family and encourage pastors and their wives. If you met Billy, he was your friend and you felt it.
This morning it all came around for me. Billy’s example is the kind of person God has been laying on my heart to be. I want to be an encourager and lover of others as Billy was. That is one reason I am so excited for the Armed and Dangerous Conference in May. My friend, Brandi Wilson, told me that her main goal for the conference is for each pastor’s wife who attends to come away with contact information for at least one other pastor’s wife. She wants all of us to go home with an idea of someone we can call to give and receive encouragement from. What an amazing gift that will be to us! I feel so blessed to be able to reap the benefits of the work that Leading and Loving It is doing to help us feel encouraged.
When was the last time you saw God “intersect” difference experiences in your life??
And this is the perfect time to remind you that registration for Armed and Dangerous ends TOMORROW at midnight. We have only a few slots left… like single digits. So if you’re considering joining us sign up now!
