We've Still Got It?
My friend Jen Foster, wife of this guy, and I took our kids down to Belmont Park to have lunch and ride the rides while we were in San Diego. I love hanging out with Jen. She is cool, our kids totally love each other, and our husbands are very much alike. The Fosters are kind of our traveling buddies. We have come to San Diego with them many times over the years. We went with them to New York to attend the Q Conference. And several years ago we went on what might be the lamest cruise. They are great.
So, Jen, the kids and I were eating at this Mexican food restaurant. There were only tables with 4 seats, so we sat the kids at a table directly behind us. The kids were doing their usual … Jen’s quiet kids acting perfectly, and my Ethan raising the roof.
We were just starting to eat when Jen noticed two surfer guys a few tables away. She said, “Those guys keep staring at us.” After a few comments from me about how “we’ve still got it,” and after two kids how lucky our husbands are, we were feeling pretty good about ourselves.
That is when those guys finished eating and headed over. Jen said, “Oh no, they are coming over here.” Surfer guy stopped right next to Ethan (directly behind me) and said, “You have the best laugh buddy. You hang onto that.” And then he walked off.
Oh crap! We don’t have it! We are now if the phase of life where we just have cute kids. Depressing … and funny. Anyway, I got a great laugh out of it!
What is your greatest asset? (Obviously mine is a loud laughing four year old)
Vacation Pics
swim shirts, floaties, a kick board, goggles: Can you say over-protective mother?
I thought I would share a few pics from our vacation. We love the beach. It is one of our favorite places to go as a family. We’ve been coming to San Diego since we moved to California about 7 years ago. So now the kids refer to San Diego as “our beach.” We actually stay and play on the bay side. We watch the sail boats. We don’t have to worry about other people since there is usually no one else playing on the bay side. It is quiet and wonderful … just what we are looking for on vacation!
Where is the place that you are most able to unplug and relax from the pressures of life and leadership?

Ok, I’m probably the last one in the world to see this video. I actually saw it on The View which is really funny since I never watch that show. I’m not a huge animal person, but I LOVE my bulldog. So, I totally teared up like a big ole wimp! I don’t normally do that. I think I’ve cried in 2-3 books, a few movies, and that’s about it. Maybe it is just the vacation getting to me.
How big of a crier are you? Do you cry in books? Movies? Commercials? It is ok, you can admit it.
Random Facts Pt 2 – Guest Blog Kim
(Even though Kim wrote this, I totally had to add this smooching picture of Jud and I from the Boneyard.)
Did you know that we lock lips for an average of 336 hours over a lifetime? That means two weeks of our lives are spent kissing. Also- you burn up to six calories a minute kissing! An extra benefit from kissing is that it can also help you look and feel younger. I don’t know about you but I can’t think of a better way to spend two weeks. A kiss from my kids in the morning sets my day off to a great start. A kiss with my husband after a hard day can ease some stress. There is something in “puckering up” that helps me have a better day. What about you?
Random Facts Pt 1 – Guest Blog Kim
Did you know that a sneeze travels 100 miles per hour? This random fact caught my attention because I sometimes feel like in ministry and life we just fly by things. Moments of greatness can pass us by quickly because we are moving at mach speeds. We see people in the hall and wave politely but move on to the next person. We get a phone call during the day from someone who needs to talk but we blow him or her off to get one more errand done. We are so worried about out to-do lists that we sometimes miss being intentional. I wonder if we are missing out on life-changing moments in our quest to multitask and stick to the day planner. We need to slow down this week and be intentional with others. Maybe call a friend just to talk or visit a neighbor and share a cup of coffee. That last thing that we want to be compared to is a sneeze….. traveling through life at 100 miles per hour!
What is one area that needs a slow down? Is there someone you have been neglecting? Who could you spend some down-time with?
