What's Your Flavor … High School
I graduated from high school … gulp … 15 years ago. That seems kind of crazy.
I graduated in ‘94. Here are some random things I remember:
-Our mascot was this sandstorm. That may not sound scary … but that is only because you haven’t been caught in one of those nasty things. Ok … maybe not scary. But definitely disgusting.
-Our cheer chant thingy was “Blow Sand Blow.” I’m sure our rivals were shaking in their boots.
-We had a school dance the night Kurt Cobain died and danced to lots of Nirvana.
-We played roller hockey on the tennis courts. I was always goalie because I stunk.
-I learned more about Nostradamus from my History teacher/coach than any actual history.
-I got mono and missed out on a huge DisneyWorld school trip.
-I drove an ‘89 maroon Grand Am which was later replaced by a ‘92 Grand Am when I went to college. My dad had some kind of odd Pontiac obsession or something.
-I got super sick during a Moby Dick test. Don’t know if it was the test or giving blood that day that did me in. But I have always blamed Herman Melville.
-I had a different “style” of dress every year that directly related to the kind of music I was listening to at the time. (Soph: Country, Junior: Hip Hop, & Sr: Grunge) I’m sure that paints a disturbing mental image.
-And the cherry on top: I lettered in Academics, Band and Latin. I defy any of you to be more ridiculously un-cool than that.
What was your High School flavor?
We Have Feelings Too
A few months ago one of the beautiful ladies on our staff zipped up to talk to me in the hallway. She is absolutely adorable and was pregnant with their first child.
She said,” I just have to tell you … because I knew you’d understand.” Then she told me about someone and their not so nice comments about her growing belly. She added, “I think they forgot that I have feelings too.”
I gave her a big hug. Told her she was fabulous, and we went our separate ways. But that stuck with me. I do think she is partially right. Sometimes people do forget that leaders have feelings too … although they probably say stuff like that to others in their lives as well.
Since I know we aren’t alone in this, let’s share ideas and thoughts at how to respond to these types of events. What do you do when someone forgets you have feelings too?
Rock the Vote
These are our friends Mosaic. They are part of our family at Central. In fact, they filmed this promo video on our platform. Tuesday night (tomorrow or today depending on when you are reading this) they will be on America’s Got Talent. We are so excited about this opportunity for them. So … make sure to watch and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! Please help us support them.

For a little extra treat, click here and see an amazing performance by Corwyn at Central a couple of months ago. He was incredible singing “Let It Be.”
Volunteers Anyone?
I’m looking for people who might be interested in doing some interview-type things for this here blog.
I’m just hunting down people in all areas of leadership … church planting, Jr High Ministry, non-profits, Children’s Ministry, whatever.
If you are willing to chat with me … and share with everyone else … just leave me a comment below with the area of leadership you or you & your spouse serve in. Easy as that.
So … volunteers anyone?
Strike That
Maybe you remember this post about resurrecting old TV Shows. If not, you can read it here.
Y’all aren’t going to believe this, but I actually found Dr Quinn on TV a couple of days ago on the Gospel Music Channel of all places. Who even knew there was such a channel.
Any-who I’ve watched about 4 episodes … and this show isn’t as good as I remember it being. I’m super disappointed. It is actually quite cheesy. So, I am now amending this post so that I can strike this not-so-good show from my list.
Good-bye Dr Quinn. Good bye Season Pass … I shall not be TiVo-ing you.
I wonder if all of the shows I used to like are equally as cheesy.
