The Pastor’s Wife and The Politician’s Wife
Posted by Brandi Wilson
Recently I had the opportunity to sit down with a local politician’s wife. I think I had always assumed pastors’ wives and politicians’ wives had quite a bit in common, but little did I realize how much until we chatted together over coffee.
Living life in the public eye comes with demands that are sometimes difficult to manage. Rarely do we go anywhere that someone doesn’t know my husband. For us, that has been a gradual change as the church has grown. But I never thought about being thrust into the public eye suddenly after an election. To actually move from being known by those you do life with into a life with little to no anonymity.
As I tried to share advice with the politician’s wife I realized the most important thing I could say to her is that I understand… to give her validation. Validate her feelings and her fears. Validate her emotions, her celebrations and her frustrations. Isn’t that what we’re often searching for. Someone who knows where we are in life. Whether it’s in parenting, finances, medical diagnosis, career decisions, marriage and yes, even in ministry. We find comfort in finding someone else say “I’ve been there. I know how you feel. And I’ve come out on the other side.”
I have always loved how God can use all of our experiences to minister to someone else. Often in ways we would have never foreseen… in ways only He can orchestrate.
When is the last time God used one of your experiences to validate someone else?

So good and true Brandi. This is what I LOVE most about my virtual group…the validation that everyone of us is going through the same type of things just different circumstances. It really helps keep things in perspective!

My best friend from high school married a politican and we talk all the time about the similarities. It’s been great support over the years.
