Handling Criticism

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Back with my friend Donna to talk about criticism in leadership. If you missed our last video chat, you can see it here.

Also, I obviously have not figured out how to make a cute freeze frame picture. Donna is probably freaking out right now!  So sorry, my friend, so sorry! Someone with technical ability help me so that I don’t continually embarrass myself and my friends!

Kicking Character Assassins in the Face

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Deadly ViperA while ago my fabulous husband, Jud, and his best friend Mike, wrote a really great book called Deadly Viper Character Assassins. If you aren’t familiar with Deadly Viper, you might want to be. It is a great resource for your church, staff, small group, or yourself. In fact, we’ve done a whole message series (which are free downloads on iTunes) around it at Central, and I’ve lead our pastor’s wives through the book as well.

Here is the latest in the battle against the assassins:

1. Deadly Viper, Silver is coming out in September. You can pre-order it here. It will have an extra chapter, a small group discussion guide, additional cartoons and graphics, and some other surprises.

2. You can also download the free audio version of Deadly Viper, but you should really order the book because it is beautiful.

3. There is a Deadly Viper fan page on Facebook where you can keep up with all of the latest news.

4. The follow up book, People of the Second Chance, is in the works. They are writing like mad men … and I know it is going to be great. Oh and of course just as amazing design-wise.

5. You can always read the boys’ thoughts on their blog, or follow Jud and Mike on Twitter.

Anyone read the book? Let me hear your thoughts on it.

Rethinking

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

julyaugustMy husband recently did an interview with Rethink Monthly. You can read the whole interview here, but this is a little peek:

Rethink Monthly: In your personal life, is there anything that God is speaking to you that is causing you to rethink the way that you do things in your own life?

Jud Wilhite: Yeah, I think the one thing just this last week, I have been really convicted by is that I think my prayers are too small. I have been reading about the Great Awakening in America and just thinking about how the entire city of Philadelphia went out to a field and heard George Whitfield speak. It has happened before, and like how small my prayers are to imagine the entire city of Las Vegas going out in the desert to hear a message about Christ. I have just been trying to expand my thinking so I will tell you how that played out this weekend. I saw something that I have never seen this weekend. It is one of the things I want to talk to you about on the church side. You know what, I’ll wait. As far as this question goes, I think the big challenge that I have wrestled with is my prayers are too small, and our God is soooo much bigger than I give Him credit. It hasn’t sunk into my life enough and I have really been lit up with that personally. I am just trying to expand my vision of what God can do and who He is, and all that He is accomplishing.

What are you Rethinking?

A Handful

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

In this day of hundreds of Facebook friends and just as many Twitter  followers, how many deep, meaningful, close friendships can a person really develop and maintain?

If what Donna said in the last post is true, that we can each have a “handful” of friends, how many is a handful for you?

And what does this mean in relation to our leadership? Lots of us are very outnumbered. How can we strike that balance of having lots of acquaintances/friends and continuing to develop that handful of really close friends?

Friendships in Leadership

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Here is a little video we recorded last week when Donna and I were hanging out. Donna and her husband serve at Hillside Christian Church in our hometown, Amarillo Tx. I’d love to hear your comments below.

And someone who actually knows something about video, tell me how to get the frozen screen shot to not be something dorky. I obviously have no idea how to control it. Certainly wouldn’t choose that picture on purpose.

Oh well … here we go …
